Privacy

This page describes what happens to your files and your data when you use Benchfile. It is written to be checked against what the site actually does, not to cover every possibility. If something here is unclear, ask via the contact page.

Your files

Every tool on this site runs inside your web browser. When you drop a file onto a tool, it is read by the page from your device into your browser's memory, processed there, and the result is handed back to you as a download. There is no upload step. Benchfile has no server that receives files and no storage where files are kept.

Because of this, we cannot see your files, cannot recover them for you, and cannot be asked to delete them — there is nothing on our side to delete. When you close the tab, the browser discards everything it was holding.

Code that runs on your device

Some tools need extra code before they can work — a HEIC decoder, a PDF renderer, text-recognition data. That code is downloaded from this website to your browser when the tool needs it, and it runs on your device. The file you are working on is passed to that code inside your browser; it is not sent back to us or to anyone else.

We do not use cookies and we do not store anything in your browser's local storage. Text recognition downloads its language data fresh each time rather than caching it.

What the hosting provider sees

The site is served by a hosting provider, which keeps standard request logs: the address of the page requested, the time, your IP address and your browser's identification string. These logs are ordinary web-server logs. They never contain your files, because your files are never sent.

Analytics

This site does not currently run any analytics script. If that changes, this section will say what is measured and how, and any tool used will be one that counts page views without cookies and without building a profile of you.

Advertising

Benchfile is free to use and may show advertising to cover its costs. When advertising is enabled, it is served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads and to measure them, as described in Google's advertising policy.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before any advertising cookies are set, through a consent dialog provided by Google. You can decline, and you can change your choice later. Advertising never has access to the files you process — the ad code and the tool code do not communicate.

Changes

If the way the site handles data changes, this page changes with it. The site is built so that the promise at the top of every tool page — your files stay on this device — is literally true, and it will stay that way.
