Rotate PDF Pages

Your files stay on this device. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored on a server.

Drop your files here

or pick them from your device

Leave empty to apply to every page. Otherwise list them, e.g. 2, 4-6.

How it works

  1. Drop a PDF onto the bench, or pick one from your device.
  2. Choose the direction, and optionally list which pages to turn. Leave the list empty for all of them.
  3. Press Rotate and download the corrected file.

A sideways PDF is almost always a scanner's fault. Feed a landscape sheet through a portrait scanner and the file opens with the text running up the page; scan a batch of mixed sheets and every other page comes out turned. The document itself is fine — it just needs to be told which way is up.

That is exactly what this tool changes, and it is worth knowing how. A PDF page carries a rotation flag, a single number that tells the viewer to display the page turned by 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees. Rotating here updates that flag. The page contents are not redrawn, not re-rendered and not recompressed, which means the result is byte-for-byte as sharp as the original and the file barely changes size. It also means rotating three times by 90 and once by 270 are the same thing, and rotating twice by 180 puts you back where you started.

Because the change is a flag, every well-behaved viewer honours it — Acrobat, browsers, Preview, phone readers, and printers. If you have ever rotated a PDF in a viewer and had the rotation vanish when you sent the file to someone, that was the viewer keeping the rotation to itself instead of writing it into the file. This writes it.

The page list lets you fix only the pages that need it. A twenty-page scan with pages 3 and 11 sideways takes a list of 3, 11 and one press. Leave the list empty and every page turns together.

Questions people ask

Does rotating reduce the quality?
No. Only the page's rotation flag changes; the content is untouched. Text stays selectable, images keep their resolution, and the file size is essentially the same.
Which way does 90° clockwise turn the page?
The top edge moves to the right-hand side, as if you turned a sheet of paper a quarter turn to the right on a desk. Use 90° counter-clockwise for the opposite, and 180° to flip a page that is upside down.
Can I rotate just some of the pages?
Yes. List them in the pages box — 3, 11 or 5-8 — and only those turn. Leave the box empty and the whole document rotates.
I rotated it in my viewer and it did not stick. Why?
Many viewers rotate the display without saving the change into the file, so the recipient sees the original orientation. This tool writes the rotation into the PDF itself, so it travels with the file.
Is the file uploaded?
No. The rotation is applied by your browser on this page and the file never leaves your device.
